The Sienko Research Group is always looking for exceptional doctoral graduate student applicants interested in medical device design and subsequent evaluation of the design in human subjects. Prospective students are encouraged to apply for external fellowships (e.g., NSF Graduate Student Research Fellowship).

Global Health Design Initiative Academic Program

The Design for Global Health Academic Program provides engineering and non-engineering undergraduate students with an opportunity to address global health challenges through clinical immersion and capstone design. The program emphasizes the use of design ethnography techniques and co-creation as part of a comprehensive design process. Students have the option of completing either one or two semesters of design following the clinical immersion experience. Those opting to complete two semesters of design typically enroll in the Multidisciplinary Design Minor – Global Health Design (GHD) Specialization. This specialization provides interdisciplinary undergraduate engineering students with a rigorous two-semester design course featuring project scoping/clinical immersion in domestic or international clinics, co-creation with the community it intends to serve, technology introduction, and re-design. Students have the opportunity to design and prototype sustainable products that address significant global health needs (e.g., maternal health) while simultaneously assessing social venture potential in the communities they are trying to serve.
